Remaining Differences
GSN still contains some “superset” features that can differentiate it from Ethernet
- Faster physical layer (6.4 Gbits/sec versus 1 Gbit/sec)
- Larger packet support (up to 4 GB versus 1.5 to 9KB)
- Multiple Virtual Channels (VCs)
- Primarily important because of the blocking potential that large packets would create if there was no “fast lane” for passing
- Allows “just like Ethernet” on one channel to occur even while other protocols run on other channels
