Fibre Channel Extenders

Most optical implementations of Fibre Channel links run over multi-mode fiber. Dependent on the transmission speed, a distance up to 500 meter or 2 km can be reached with this type of fiber. In case transmission over a longer distance is needed, an Fibre Channel extender is can be used. This will transport the data over single-mode fiber, which allows transmission over a distance of up to 30 km.

FLX-1000 Optical Link Extender

The FLX-1000 Optical Link Extender extends the distance of high speed multi-mode data links to more than 30 Km. A pair of FLX-1000's accomplish this task by converting the short wavelength (800 nm) multi-mode signal to long wavelength (1310 nm) single-mode and vice versa. It performs this conversion from 100 Mb/s to 1.1 Gb/s. The 1310 nm link provides a minimum of 19 dB optical power budget for operation over at least 30 Km of single mode fiber.
