Fibre Channel S-bus Interfaces
Introduction
S-bus Fibre Channel interfaces exist or will exist from the following manufacturers:
Ancor Communications
The S-bus Ancor Fibre Channel
Communications Interface Module (CIM) is a 266 megabaud network interface
card. It links workstations, processors and peripherals via a Fibre Channel
fabric.
Box Hill
Functionality
-
Implements true Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) topology
-
Supports full-speed Fibre Channel data rates of 100 MB per second
-
Supports dual, full speed Fibre Channel loops for 200 MB per second data
rates (with two adapters)
-
Connects up to 125 GB Fibre Channel disk drives, per arbitrated loop
-
Fully ANSI Fibre Channel standards-compliant

Sun
Sun has a S-bus adapter for the RAID Mass-Storage
Subsystem. Details for the whole system can be found from the description
from Sun. The software for it supports only their own RAID Mass storage
system and no IP or direct channel. Sun
has signed an agreement with Ancor Communications which possibly will
make that the Sun adapters will provide networking connectivity.

Company at (415) 336- 7226.
Systran
FibreXpress S-bus interface
Hardware
-
512K on-board SRAM memory buffer with no on-board processor
-
Support for Arbitrated Loop, Switched Fabric, and Point-to-Point topologies
-
Copper, shortwave laser, or longwave laser communication through industry-standard
Gigabit Link Modules
-
Memory-mapped or multi-channel DMA access to the SRAM buffer
-
Interrupt controller to report link failure, transaction completion, buffer
space request or single-frame completion
-
Intelligent Fibre Channel ASIC
Software
-
Fibre Channel Direct Attach (FCDA) disk device driver designed for private-loop,
mass-storage SCSI communication
-
FibreXpress Lightweight Protocol (FXLP) device driver designed for high-throughput
computer-to-computer communication. Bypasses the TCP-IP protocol
stack for improved performance
