In NA48, HIPPI is used to distribute data in the thrid-level trigger workstation farm of the data-acquisition system:
The data consists of assembled events produced by the event builder (also called "data merger") which includes a custom-made HIPPI source. The distribution is handled by a dedicated HIPPI switch. The receiving workstations (WS) are equipped with a HIPPI to TURBOchannel interface designed for this very purpose, which is now a commercial product.
This data distribution system was presented at the RT93 conference in Vancouver (June 8-11, 1993), together with the results of the interface's first performance measurements. See the RT93 paper as published in the proceedings for more information.
