GSN News and Overview of the Status of
New and Announced Products
15 December 2000 | Open Systems TCP/IP Recrod Broken with GSN. Press-Release
22 Mai 2000 |
Genroco sponsors and chairs a Bird of all feathers meeting on Storage Area Networks over GigE at SAN 2000 in San Jose, USA. The CERN Joint development projects are mentioned. See Genroco Press Release. |
|
4 April 2000 | The GSN Optical Workgroup accepts the proposed Fibre optics connection and decided to modify the HIPPI-6400 OPT standard. See Genroco Press Release
3 April 2000 | Tests for an fibre optics connection for GSN at CERN have runned succesfully for 24 hours. The 16 bit mode of the SuMAC chip is used in combination with the INFINEON Paroli DC version.
November 1999 | Supercomputer
1999 in Orlando Genroco, PMR and ODS-Essential demonstrated 8X8 GSN switches. Genroco shows a SAN application using SUN (MAXSTRAT) disk arrays |
|
13-14 Mai 1999 | During the ANSI T11.1 Working Committee meetings on May 13 and 14, 1999, GENROCO demonstrated succesfully the next generation SAN technology using the Gigabyte Systems Network. For more information

2 June 1999 | FYI, ODS & GENROCO were successful
last week with a number of tests communicating between a GSN enabled SGI
O2000 and a GENROCO GSN bridge through an ODS GSN switch. An O200 with an ODS HIPPI ctlr was connected to a HIPPI blade on the GENROCO bridge (through a HIPPI switch) and a Seagate Fibre Channel drive was connected to an FC blade in the same bridge. The O200 and O2000 talked IP while the O2000 ran the FC drive using a raw ST driver over the same GSN link at the same time! |
|
1 February 1999 |
CERN and Genroco start a joint development project to develop a Gigabit Ethernet Daughter board for the Genroco GSN Bridge |
|
10 - 12 November 1998 | SC98 High
Performance Networking and Computer exhibition in Orlando: ODS Essential announced that: the 32X32 GSN Switch is available. Genroco demonstrated working models of: The THX 8864 8X8 GSN Switch, the TBF 864 1 to 8 GSN to FC bridge The SHP 6464 GSN PCI nic's with drivers for Compaq Alpha and Sun Silicon Graphics demonstrated: GSN Interfaces for Origin 2000 running at 400 MByte/sec using 2.5 % processor time. |
|
13 October 1998 |
First public GSN workshop hold
at CERN. During the demonstrations Silicon Graphics showed transfer speeds of over 400 MBytes/s between 2 standard Origin 2000 machines. This data transfer using a socket service corresponds to 99 % of the memory bandwidth. Genroco showed data transfers between a SUN Enterprise 450 and a COMPAQ Alpha 4100 using there PCI-GSN Interfaces. |

12 August 1998 | The HIPPI-6400 PH specification
has been forwarded for final processing to NCITS The HIPPI-6400 SC specification has been forwarded for second public review |
|
1 July 1998: | Test with GSN Laboratory prototypes have shown that a GSN point to point connection using a 40 M copper cable work with an acceptable error rate. |
